FarePilot

FarePilot helps you find rides when it’s slow or when you get a ride that drags you out to unfamiliar territory. It uses a combination of historical data around traffic, events, weather, and driver feedback to “learn” the best places to find rides at any given time. It’s weirdly smart at suggesting where to go for a ride (although it’s not a guarantee of finding one).

I was a bit skeptical of their claims at first because it seems like it would be hard to predict demand for rides if you’re not Uber or Lyft.

However, once I started using it, I quickly learned that it works well. I like to use it when I get a ride that takes me to unfamiliar territory or into the suburbs since it will tell you where it thinks you are most likely to get your next ride. FarePilot helped me find a ride in the middle of the night that took me back home, so I’ve been using it a lot more now.

I don’t use it much when I’m driving in my regular area but whenever I don’t know where to go, FarePilot does a really good job of giving me suggestions so I don’t waste gas.

Rydar

Rydar does a lot of things and I like to call it, the Swiss Army Knife of driver tools. While you can use the free version of Rydar, the Premium version offers additional benefits I find worth paying for. The Premium version syncs with your Uber driver account and provides insights into the business side of driving based on your trip info that Uber has. That said, the free version works well, and you could stick with that.

Related: Rydar: The Swiss Army Knife of Driver Tools

Here’s a list of everything Rydar does:

  • Lists nearby concerts, events, games with approximate crowd sizes.
  • Provides a map of bars, clubs, and restaurants where riders are likely to be.
  • Find places for you to go for your next ride with the “waypoint” feature.
  • Tracks your mileage.
  • Provides custom surge alerts and notifications.
  • Track expenses and income.
  • Download reports to excel.

In my opinion, using the free version of Rydar is worth it for the events calendar alone. It’s all conveniently in one place and you can save them to a schedule for later so you know where the big crowds will be later.

Surge Chaser

Surge Chaser allows you to drop pins on a map and receive notifications when surge is nearby. You can set up notifications and filter them based on the amount of surge, how close the surge is, and filter by product (UberX, Select, UberXL, etc). There’s also a version for Lyft called Surge Chaser for Lyft. It’s basically the same thing as the Uber version but with pink accents. Just like Lyft itself!

Although I don’t personally use these two apps, the drivers I’ve seen using Surge Chaser really swear by it because it allows them to be aware of surge pricing while they are in a ride. This is more valuable than ever before, because when it gets busy drivers are more likely to be “stuck” in back-to-back & stacked rides from Uber and Lyft without getting a chance to see surge at all.

Surge Chaser will notify you of that surge so you can log out and target an area with surge pricing versus blindly accepting those stacked rides with incomplete information.

People Who Love Surge Chaser Say…

“Great replacement for a feature Uber removed from their own app! Remember how they bragged about surge notifications as a feature to help drivers earn more? Then they removed it w/ no notice? ::slow clap:: The free trial period is very generous. Recommended for all “power drivers”. – ScannerJammer (App Store)

The Critics Say:

  • Pros: Helps you track and record surge.

Voxer

My favorite rideshare app of all time isn’t even focused on driving. Back in 2014, I went to a Lyft meetup and a good friend of mine, Rafael, added me to a Voxer group full of other drivers. Once I got into this Voxer group, I was able to get the lowdown on everything about driving in my local area. Voxer also connected me with other drivers and made the experience of driving so much more satisfying.

Voxer is a walkie-talkie app that allows you to communicate with your voice in real time. You can record by pushing the button once and then stop recording by hitting the button again. It’s really well set up for rideshare driving because it requires little input to operate while in your car.

It’s not as popular as it used to be since Messenger steamrolled everyone into using it instead. I still prefer Voxer though.

People Who Love Voxer Say…

BONUS: TheRideshareGuy App!!!

This is the best app I’ve ever installed on my cell phone, hands down, no competition. It was engineered by STALLION engineer-monks working from atop a monastery overlooking a Norwegian Fjord at sunset, the Orange Hex values were handpicked and built to the original vision of Steve Jobs, who imagined an app that could deliver the fresshhest rideshare content almost every other day.

Since its deployment, the app has been downloaded over 15 billion times while holding a modest rating average of 6.1 stars (out of 5) on Google Play and the App Store. It’s received top reviews and praise from Jay-Z, Obama, the Pope, and Batman. The app has since been nominated for a Nobel prize in the highly competitive category of “Freshest Rideshare Driver Content”. I’d delete photos of my family on my phone before I ever deleted this app! #hypeman

There are a lot of apps out there claiming to help rideshare
drivers and today, senior RSG contributor Christian Perea covers
the top driver apps of 2018 to make your job driving easier (and
perhaps more profitable). What do you think of the apps listed
below? Let us know your favorite in the comments!

There are a lot of companies building apps to help drivers, but
today we’re going to focus on the category of ‘driver assistance
apps’. We’ve already covered mileage tracking apps extensively (
https://el2.convertkit-mail.com/c/o8uxg9procqhl40om/nvfk3zw5tv/aHR0cHM6Ly90aGVyaWRlc2hhcmVndXkuY29tL2RheS01LXdoYXQtYXJlLXRoZS1iZXN0LWFwcHMtdG8tdHJhY2steW91ci1taWxlYWdlLw== ), but driver assistance apps are a
new term we just made up and they are apps that make driving
easier for drivers or allow drivers to earn more money.

Most of them have a monthly or yearly fee, but there are some
pretty unique ideas out there and I’ve also included a possibly
biased opinion on DA BEST rideshare app at the end

I like to think of these apps as tools to make driving easier,
help drivers discover information, or help drivers with specific
challenges while driving. Many of them have subscription fees,
but they all have free trials, so I encourage testing them out in
the wild to see if they help you earn more.

Mystro
------

Mystro allows you to automate which trips you accept by setting a
filter ahead of time. Then, when you’re driving, Mystro filters
and accepts rides for you without you having to touch your phone.
For example, you can set Mystro to only filter through rides on
1.5x surge with a passenger rating of 4.8 or above, and if an
incoming request meets those requirements, the Mystro app will
accept the ride for you automatically. It’ll also deny any rides
that don’t meet your requirements.

You can watch it do this without even taking your hands off the
wheel.

Mystro is only available on Android because Apple doesn’t let
developers do automation like this within iOS. It’s against
Apple’s rules.

People Who Love Mystro Say…
---------------------------

“The interface between uber and lyft is seamless….no need to
touch ur phone it accepts automatic…..I will have to say that
sometimes the app freezes …..I love this app for now” –David
Stitzer ( https://el2.convertkit-mail.com/c/o8uxg9procqhl40om/52hvh7/aHR0cHM6Ly9wbGF5Lmdvb2dsZS5jb20vc3RvcmUvYXBwcy9kZXRhaWxzP2lkPXBhcnRuZXJzLmRyaXZlci5teXN0cm8maGw9ZW5fVVMmcmV2aWV3SWQ9Z3AlM0FBT3FwVE9HYTE1Z2dpcmhleEh4Zk90a3VESzk0V2lya1ZVQmY5M0Zta1QxTVFNekpmRjh5U2JoT2w0ZGx3cHc1OWtoZkNOTk53ellfenlfVTVKcVlRY2c= )

The Critics Say:
----------------

“The idea of the app is quite good and does improve my profits
notably. My complaints are that it frequently bugs out, refusing
to open or close one of the apps that it is controlling. I like
what it is supposed to do, I just want it to do it better.” –

* Pros: Automates and filters the type of requests you want to
accept or deny and makes running Lyft and Uber much easier and
safer.

* Cons: Sometimes the app’s UX/UI is still a bit clunky and it’s
only available for Android.

* Cost: $11.95/month or $99.95/year

engineer-monks working from atop a monastery overlooking a
Norwegian Fjord at sunset, the Orange Hex values were handpicked
and built to the original vision of Steve Jobs, who imagined an
app that could deliver the fresshhest rideshare content almost
every other day.

Since its deployment, the app has been downloaded over 15 billion
times while holding a modest rating average of 6.1 stars (out of
5) on Google Play and the App Store. It’s received top reviews
and praise from Jay-Z, Obama, the Pope, and Batman. The app has
since been nominated for a Nobel prize in the highly competitive
category of “Freshest Rideshare Driver Content”. I’d delete
photos of my family on my phone before I ever deleted this app!
