POLL: NJ DEMOCRATS HOLD EDGE IN CONGRESSIONAL RACES
A new poll from Monmouth University indicates that Republican candidates will have a steep uphill battle in the state’s congressional races this fall, the Observer says (http://observer.com/2018/04/poll-new-jersey-democrats-strong-position-flip-gop-districts/) . The poll, which did not name any specific candidates, found that 54 percent of voters said they would vote or lean toward voting for the Democratic candidate in their district, while 35 percent would back the Republican. “If these results hold, we could be down to just one or two – or maybe even zero – Republican members in the state congressional delegation after November,” the director of the Monmouth University Polling Institute said.

MOST GUNS USED IN NJ CRIMES COME FROM OTHER STATES
Although New Jersey’s gun laws are among the toughest in the country, there are still plenty of firearms used in crimes here. And most of those guns come from other states, The Record writes (https://www.northjersey.com/story/news/new-jersey/2018/04/16/nj-new-jersey-where-do-guns-used-crimes-come/503115002/) . Seventy-five percent of traceable guns recovered by law-enforcement authorities are purchased in states with weaker gun laws, according to The Record’s analysis of federal firearms data and a gun-law score card by the Giffords Law Center to Prevent Gun Violence. “Our gun laws are only as good as those in the states around us," Gov. Phil Murphy said recently.

GERBER MOVING ITS HEADQUARTERS OUT OF NJ
About 180 New Jerseyans could lose their jobs when Gerber, the baby food company, moves its national headquarters out of Florham Park, NJ.com reports (http://www.nj.com/morris/index.ssf/2018/04/bye_bye_baby_gerber_taking_first_steps_to_leave_nj.html) . The company announced on Monday that it will relocate its headquarters to Arlington, Virginia. Many of the New Jersey employees will be offered the opportunity to relocate, the company said.

STATE COULD LOSE $631 MILLION IN FEDERAL TRANSIT MONEY
New Jersey is facing a hard deadline to get federal approval for its rail safety program, NJ.com writes (http://www.nj.com/politics/index.ssf/2018/04/new_jersey_faces_631m_deadline_for_us_transit_fund.html) . If the state misses the April 15, 2019 deadline, it will lose $631 million in federal money. The Federal Transit Administration says the deadline cannot be extended, but a state Department of Transportation spokesman says he is confident New Jersey will meet the requirements in time.
