After setting a deadline of May 31st to decide whether the Trans Mountain tar sands pipeline expansion was still viable, Texas oil giant Kinder Morgan realized that the wave upon wave of opposition was just too great to overcome.

But outrageously, the Canadian government is desperately attempting to force the new pipeline project through by buying the pipeline and the expansion project outright. It wants to bail out the dying oil industry at the people's expense!

It is unforgivable that the Canadian government and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau are doubling down on this project. The Trans Mountain pipeline expansion threatens to increase the transport of toxic tar sands oil through the Salish Sea sevenfold, and create a tar sands tanker highway off the West Coast. It would also worsen the effects of global warming, violate Indigenous sovereignty, risk poisoning water, and threaten the thousands of jobs that depend on clean coasts. We can’t let it be built.

Let me be clear — because of the level of opposition, a pipeline company is walking away from this risky project. The Indigenous-led movement against pipelines everywhere is forming an unbreakable wall of resistance!

If we continue to build momentum, together we can stop this pipeline. Donate today to help us step up our resistance to pipelines and support all our important work for the environment.

At the call of Indigenous leaders, thousands have stood up to the pipeline along its path in Canada and around the world over the past couple of months alone. Greenpeace US and our allies blocked Kinder Morgan’s oil barges in Seattle, and protests have even followed Trudeau all the way to London, England. Together, this movement has led Kinder Morgan to turn its back on this project — we can’t (and won’t) stop now, but we need your support.

Give today to stop dirty pipelines and help all our campaigns to protect people and the planet.

With your support, our movement has stopped mega fossil fuel projects before. Remember when Shell canceled its Arctic drilling plans? That’s why we know this is the moment to go big. We’re going to continue building opposition on the ground in Canada and down the west coast of the United States. We’re going to challenge any bank that is backing tar sands and other dirty pipeline projects. And we’re going to help take the resistance to a global scale.

We can’t do it without you. If you want to stop this pipeline, now is the time to act. Please, donate now and support all of our critical work.

We’ve come this far. Let’s keep up the pressure. Together we will win.

P.S. The Canadian government announced it plans to bail out the Kinder Morgan pipeline expansion and buy the existing 1950s era pipeline and the expansion project for $4.5 billion dollars. This momentum is a testament to the incredible, tenacious and growing resistance against tar sands pipelines. Let’s take it to the next level. Give today to power the movement and support all our work to protect people and the planet.
