SASKATOON -- A Saskatoon judge is expected to decide whether a man convicted of dozens of child pornography charges should be considered a long-term offender.

The designation would allow the court to ensure he is supervised for up to 10 years after his release from prison.

Crown and defence lawyers have filed a joint-submission seeking a seven-year prison sentence for Shane Pattison followed by a 10-year supervision order.

Pattison pleaded guilty to 42 counts of child porn-related charges in June.

He was caught reoffending after serving a five-year sentence for 53 child porn-related offences.

The police investigation into Pattison led to more than 1,300 other investigations into child pornography and the rescuing of dozens of children.

Justice Richard Danyliuk of Court of Queen's bench is to hand down his ruling on Thursday. (CTV Saskatoon)
