LAS VEGAS -- Seven months after the deadliest mass shooting in modern U.S. history, police have released witness statements and officer reports about the shooting that killed 58 people and injured hundreds on the Las Vegas Strip.

Names were blacked out in more than 1,200 pages of police reports made public Wednesday after The Associated Press and other media organizations filed a lawsuit seeking the records.

The reports contain dozens of witness accounts of gunfire and bloody bodies and describe in detail the terror, confusion and compassion to care for the wounded.

Stephen Paddock rained gunfire from a 32nd floor hotel room down on the 22,000 people attending the Route 91 Harvest Festival concert on Oct. 1.

He then killed himself as authorities identified his hotel room perch in the Mandalay Bay resort.
