ROSELLE PARK MAKES HISTORY AS FIRST COMMUNITY WITH GAY COUPLE ON COUNCIL
Two new council members took the oath of office in Roselle Park on Sunday, making the community the first in New Jersey with a gay, married couple sitting on the same dais at the same time. Kathy Lloyd of TAPinto Roselle/Roselle Park (https://www.tapinto.net/towns/roselle-roselle-park/articles/roselle-park-swears-in-two-council-members-and-ma) says Republican Joseph DeIorio took the oath of office as councilman-at-large, while DeIorio’s husband, Thomas "Thos" Shipley, is currently serving as a Republican councilman for the city's Fifth Ward.

NEW BRUNSWICK COMES TOGETHER TO ASSIST HURRICANE VICTIMS
The New Brunswick Fire Department has been running a collection drive to gather supplies and ship them to Puerto Rico, which remains devastated from Hurricanes Irma and Maria. Ilya Arbit and Charlie Kratovil of New Brunswick Today (http://newbrunswicktoday.com/article/new-brunswick-comes-together-assist-hurricane-victims) say local residents have also been pitching in by shopping in stores for supplies and donating them to the many Puerto Rican families that still lack access to basic materials. “We are all family,” said Luis Rivera, a New Brunswick resident who came out to support the relief efforts.

DENIAL OF ACCESS COMPLAINT FILED AS NEWARK CLAIMS NO CONTRACTS WITH CONSULTING FIRM
TAPinto Newark (https://www.tapinto.net/towns/newark/articles/denial-of-access-complaint-filed-as-newark-claims) filed a Denial of Access complaint on Tuesday with the Government Records Council after the City of Newark failed to fulfill an Open Public Records Act request for documents related to the city’s business dealings and contracts with consulting firm Elite Strategies LLC.

EXTREME COLD CAUSES 15 WESTFIELD WATER MAIN BREAKS IN ONE WEEK
The recent spat of extreme winter weather and sub-freezing temperatures left Westfield with a near-record number of water main breaks. Leah Scalzadonna of TAPinto Westfield (https://www.tapinto.net/towns/westfield/articles/extreme-cold-causes-15-water-main-breaks-in-westf) says fifteen water main breaks were reported in Westfield in just a single week, according to New Jersey American Water.

RAY GIACOBBE TAPPED AS INTERIM MAYOR OF RAHWAY
The councilman for Rahway's Sixth Ward has been unanimously approved by the City Council as the new interim mayor of the city. GOP CANDIDATE STARTS 'TOWN HALL' CAMPAIGN AGAINST FRELINGHUYSEN IN MORRISTOWN
Martin Hewitt's first "town hall" as a congressional candidate only drew a crowd of 12 people, but that's still one more town hall than Morristown's Rep. Rodney Frelinghuysen has held since 2013. Kevin Coughlin of Morristown Green (https://morristowngreen.com/2018/01/10/gop-candidate-hewitt-starts-town-hall-campaign-against-frelinghuysen-in-morristown/) says Hewitt is hoping that enough voters in New Jersey's 11th District are feeling neglected by the 12-term incumbent and put off by his support of President Trump, that they'll hand him a victory on primary day.
